Society for the Teaching of PsychologyDivision 2 of the American Psychological Association
The American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates invites applications for a full-time faculty position in psychology. As institution in the liberal arts tradition accredited in both the UAE and the USA, we seek candidates with a passion for both teaching and research in any area of specialization.
Successful candidates will have a PhD in psychology or a closely-related field, professional experience reflecting a commitment to teaching, an active research agenda, and strong communication skills. As a university formed on the American model with English as the language of instruction, we give priority to candidates who have experience in American models of higher education.
With two dedicated lab spaces, specialized software and hardware (such as E-Prime and MediaLab/DirectRT), a research participation pool and support services such as Sona Systems, our current faculty regularly publish in peer reviewed journals and have won both internal and external competitive grants for their research, often integrating AUS undergraduates into their lab activities.
We are also currently seeking initial accreditation for a new undergraduate program in psychology to begin in the 2018-2019 academic year. Our cultural context presents the opportunity to introduce psychological science to thousands of young adults who might otherwise find few such chances. As such, candidates should indicate interests and experiences related to undergraduate program development.
AUS is licensed and its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division in the United Arab Emirates. AUS is also accredited in the United States of America by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Situated nearby Sharjah International Airport in the expanding University City area, AUS is positioned only 30 minutes from Dubai and its international attractions. AUS was recently named by Times Higher Education as hosting the most internationally diverse student body in the world, reflecting a dynamic and cosmopolitan metro area that includes abundant opportunities for travel, entertainment, cultural experiences and natural beauty.
