    Assistant Professor Positions at the Graduate Level


    The Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy in the College of Education and Human Services is seeking applicants for two tenure track positions as core faculty in the Counseling/Professional Counseling MA/EdS and the School Counseling MA programs.  Core faculty throughout the department are expected to contribute to the college’s collective mission, working collaboratively as colleagues serving programs in counseling and school counseling, marriage and family therapy, counseling psychology, psychological studies, and school psychology.  The department has a long-standing commitment to train competent, socially conscious, and reflective professionals.  This includes training Counseling Psychologists who are scientist-practitioners, as well as Professional Counselors and School Counselors who are multiculturally competent, dedicated to advancing social justice, and prepared to meet the challenges of working in complex urban settings.

    Qualifications/Requirements:  An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education & Supervision or Counseling Psychology is strongly preferred. It is required that candidates clearly identify as a counselor and/or counseling psychologist. It is anticipated that candidates will have the leadership skills to further develop national visibility of the programs through support and modeling of cutting-edge scholarship.  Evidence of achievement or potential for achievement in scholarly productivity is required as well as licensure or eligibility for licensure and/or school counselor certification in New Jersey.  Successful candidates are expected to teach online and on-campus, depending on departmental and program needs, and contribute to the Department as a whole.  Candidates must demonstrate ability to provide expertise in instruction in foundational areas as well as advanced practice supervision.  Specific teaching areas will be determined based on department needs and candidates’ interests. Consistent with program philosophy, the successful candidate must be committed to infusing multicultural content and social justice principles across all course work.


    Additional Responsibilities:  Depending on the needs of students, program, and department, additional duties include advising, research mentoring, and clinical supervision of students, as well as University, College, Department, and Program assignments.  Faculty are also expected to contribute to program administration, on a rotating cycle.  Further, we seek an individual who works collaboratively, collegially, and respectfully to promote the mission of the department and programs.


    Salary and Appointment:  Two full-time (9-month) tenure-track appointments at the Assistant Professor level are available.  Appointment at the Associate Professor level may be considered for candidates with the qualifications, experience, and ability to immediately assume a leadership role in one of our programs.  Salary range is competitive.  Summer teaching opportunities are generally available.  Our location provides numerous opportunities for recreation, entertainment, education and culture in the immediate area as well as in New York City, which is only 14 miles to our northeast.
