The Psychology Department in the School of Social Sciences invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Psychology with emphasis in Positive Psychology, Multicultural Psychology, Health Psychology, Social/Personality Psychology, or Clinical/Counseling Psychology to begin August, 2020. The Psychology Department is one of the largest majors on campus with approximately 600 full-time and part-time students from diverse demographic backgrounds, and nine full-time faculty members. The Department, which is housed in the School of Social Sciences, emphasizes high-quality undergraduate teaching, scholarship, advising, and service to the community and the university. Our goal is to empower students with the psychological knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to be effective agents of change in the world. DUTIES OF THE POSITION
The position is open-area. Priority will be given to specializations in Positive Psychology, Multicultural Psychology, Health Psychology, Social/Personality Psychology, and Clinical/Counseling Psychology. We seek a highly motivated, dynamic teacher/scholar who is capable of teaching courses in her/his/their area of expertise and two of the lower- division required courses for the major: Psychological Research Methods and Psychology of Self-Discovery. The Psychology of Self-Discovery course introduces students to skills in self-reflection and psychological theory, research, and practice relevant to developing self-knowledge as it applies to people of diverse backgrounds. Topics might include mindfulness, happiness/well-being, resilience, emotional regulation, compassion/self-compassion, and inner self-reflection. In addition, the candidate will teach courses in her or his area of expertise. Academic responsibilities typically include 12 units of undergraduate curriculum (typically three courses). Faculty members are expected to infuse diversity perspectives into their teaching and prepare students to effectively work with diverse populations. The ideal candidate will have a promising program of research that could involve undergraduates and an ability to integrate experiential/active learning methods into their teaching. Implementation of transformative learning pedagogy is highly desirable. In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty are expected to advise students, take part in departmental administrative and/or committee work, serve on campus-wide committees, and provide service to the public and community. We will give strong preference to candidates who focus on research relevant to social justice and multiculturalism, broadly defined.
To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:
-A Ph.D. in Psychology by the time of appointment by August 1, 2020.
-The ability to teach courses in Psychological Research Methods and the Psychology of Self-Discovery. -Evidence of effective teaching.
-Ability to mentor undergraduates in research.
-An active program of research or scholarship with some record of peer-reviewed publication and presentation at professional conferences.

To be recommended for tenure, the candidate must demonstrate satisfactory performance in four areas: (1)
teaching effectiveness; (2) research, scholarship, and creative achievement; (3) service to the University;
and (4) public service and service to the community. Tenure may be granted at any time, but contract
provisions specify that "the normal period of probation shall be a total of six (6) years of full-time
probationary service and credited service, if any. Any deviation from the normal six (6) year probationaryRevised 8/2019 2
period shall be the decision of the President following his/her consideration of recommendations from the department or equivalent unit and appropriate administrator(s).” Tenure is required for promotion above the level of Associate Professor.
RANK AND SALARY
Salary, service credit, and rank depends upon academic preparation and professional experience. The salary range for this position is: $74,200 - $86,088.
