Society for the Teaching of Psychology: Division 2 of the American Psychological Association

STP High School Teacher Travel Grant

Call for Applications (Deadlines: April 1 and October 1)

Overview

The Society for The Teaching of Psychology (STP; Division 2 of APA) is pleased to announce a new funding opportunity, the High School Teacher Travel Grant Program. Consistent with our Mission Statement and the Statement on Addressing Systemic Racism and Inequity in STP, we encourage applications from colleagues who are from underrepresented groups and have diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Grant funds will be used to defray the costs of travel to psychology teaching conferences or to more general psychology conferences that have a significant teaching of psychology component.

Requirements

Applicants must be members of STP, and priority will be given to applicants who have submitted, or will be submitting, a teaching-related proposal to the conference they are seeking to attend, or attending a conference hosted by Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS). STP encourages applications from colleagues at all career stages who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, or teach underserved populations. Conference travel must occur in the calendar year in which an award is granted.

Procedures

We will fund approximately 10 grants, with a maximum award of $1000 per grant, for conference attendance between January 1 and December 31 of the award year.

Deadline for proposals is April 1 and October 1.

Funding will be awarded twice a year, with application due dates of April 1 and October 1 each year. Five grants will be awarded for each due date, with the October deadline funding grants for conferences taking place the following calendar year and the April deadline funding grants for conferences taking place after April of the same calendar year. Applicants may submit for either or both deadlines; if an applicant submits for the October deadline and is unsuccessful in securing funding, they may resubmit for the April deadline, provided their conference is scheduled for some date after that April deadline.

Applicants will receive notification of award decisions by the end of  the following month.

Policies regarding STP grant programs can be found here.  Applications will be evaluated on the degree to which the applicant demonstrates that the proposed conference attendance will improve the applicant’s teaching of psychology.
