Proposal Submissions & Presenter Information

Submissions for ACT 2019 are currently closed.

Blind, peer-review of the submissions is in progress. Authors will be notified of their status by late June, 2019.

Please note that, due to high demand, submitters may only serve as the first author on 1 symposium or workshop. Additionally, they may only be included as an author on as many as 3 symposia or workshops. There is no limit to the amount of posters on which a submitter may be an author. 


Proposal presentations fall under one of four categories:

1. "Live from Denver" session (single author, 5 minute demonstration of a teaching technique, no computer usage)

2. Poster

3. Symposium (25-minute or 45-minute, or you can opt to indicate you would be willing to do either)

4. Workshop (2-hour session in which the facilitator[s] will lead participants through work on a task, such as course design, syllabus construction, job market applications, etc.)

For all submissions, you will be asked to provide author information, a presentation title, a 350-word abstract, and a presentation type (scholarship of teaching and learning, recommendations and best practices, professional development).

If you are submitting a symposium or workshop, you will also be asked to provide a 100-word abstract. 

Please also indicate your interest in hosting a "Lunch and Learn" table on teaching or other professional development issues, either along with your other submission(s), or solo. No abstract is necessary for the Lunch and Learn tables; just a title is needed.

Presenter Information for the Annual Conference on Teaching (2019)

Symposium/Workshop Presenters

This year we will have symposia of two different durations: 45-minutes and 25-minutes. We have also added 2-hour workshops to our presentation types. It is also possible to submit a symposium or workshop as either a solo author, or as a team of multiple authors.

We encourage presenters to model exemplary teaching and engage the audience during their presentation as much as possible (through discussion, reflection, Q/A, group work, etc.). We also encourage you to prepare and distribute any relevant handouts to audience members.

Each of the presentation rooms will have a projection screen, LCD projector and wireless Internet access, a remote slide advancer, and a laptop situated within the room with an “audio patch” allowing you to project audio from the laptop provided by our audio/visual provider. Please arrive as quickly as possible before your session to make sure your presentation works to your liking on the laptop. The presentation rooms will have microphones at the podium.

In order to facilitate smooth transitions between symposia and high quality audio video, I will request that first authors send me, Jordan Troisi (annual-conference@teachpsych.org), their symposia presentation file before the conference begins. I will be in touch with presenters about this in advance of the conference.


Posters

Authors should prepare a poster than is no larger than 36 inches tall X 48 inches wide. The posters will be affixed to one of the free-standing poster display boards scattered throughout the room (we’ll provide the push pins). Many people expect poster presenters to have handouts so please bring at least 50 copies with you. Please note that technology will not be available during the poster session.

The poster session will take place from on Friday evening. The “social hour” begins 15 minutes before the poster session so that you can grab a drink, mingle with other participants, and/or view the other posters before your presentation. Please put your poster up as the social hour is beginning and stand next to your poster during the entire poster session.

Like with the symposia and workshops this year, you will be asked to provide the best descriptor of your poster type when you propose your submission (scholarship of teaching and learning, recommendations and best practices, or professional development). We’ve included this request because this will allow conference attendees to better determine which sessions are most fitting for them.
